About

We are Laura and Michael Thompson and we own and operate the Thompson Family Farm, located south of Farmington, Minnesota.

Laura grew up on this property and we purchased it from her parents. Though she has never had any formal training with gardening and food preservation, Laura learned through her active involvement on the farm growing up. Her parents included her from an early age in everything from planting potatoes to picking green beans to washing apples and everything in between.

Michael had a completely different upbringing as he grew up in a military family. He didn't live in one house - much less one state! - very long. Michael works full time in the finance industry, and also serves as a reservist in the US Navy. On long summer days you'll often find Michael mowing grass, picking cucumbers, or helping Laura with her most recent project - of which there are MANY at any given time.

Eat Local. Buy Local.

After we moved onto the farm, one idea led to the next and in January 2020 we formally started the Thompson Family Farm.

Laura immediately started planning for the 2020 growing season and marking where we would till another garden. She also researched the process to become a registered Cottage Food Producer in the state of Minnesota - which allows us to sell select home canned and home baked items.

Education is our passion.

We LOVE growing, preserving, and baking, but Laura’s biggest passion is to educate you through the process. Empowering our customers to rethink their food sources and recipes, start a garden, and learn how to preserve is one of the best parts of what we do.

With all the information out there about gardening and canning, we help simplify the information to cut out all the noise.

Taste the local difference. There's nothing quite like walking out to your garden during harvest season and planning your dinner around what produce is ready. Though "local" for us means walking a couple hundred feet out our front door into our garden, we provide you with the best tasting, fresh vegetables grown close to home.

Supporting local farmers means you are making an environmentally conscious choice. By supporting our farm you are supporting environmentally friendly practices. The products you purchase through our farm were grown practically in your back yard!

We grow the produce for the majority of our canned goods, however anything we don't grow on our farm we source locally whenever possible. We are strong believers of supporting other local farmers.

We are currently offering our products at monthly on-farm markets with our partners New Frontier Farms in Lonsdale.

We offer regular delivery and pick ups on our farm.
